Our office offers a full range of non-surgical treatments.
- Scaling and root planing: Scaling is the removal of tartar (calculus) and bacterial plaque from the teeth both above and below the gumline. Root planing smoothes the rough spots in teeth were germs have a chance to hide and multiply. The smoothed areas also help the gums reattach to the teeth.
- Non-surgical chemotherapeutic treatment: This refers to the placing of anti-bacterial medicine to the area below the gumline in order to kill bacteria and stop the spread of gum disease.
Most periodontists agree that most patients do not require additional treatments after scaling and root planing. You will, however, require ongoing maintenance in order to sustain your health. Non-surgical therapy does not work the same for everyone and it has its limitations. In some cases it is necessary to conduct periodontal surgery in order to restore your periodontal anatomy damaged by disease.
